Hyderabad, Nov. 21 Tata Chemicals Ltd (TCL) has signed an agreement to join the Sweet Sorghum Ethanol Research Consortium, promoted by International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (Icrisat).

Dr William Dar, Director-General of Icrisat, and Mr Homi R. Khusrokhan, Managing Director of TCL, signed the memorandum of agreement recently.

“This partnership will go a long way in enhancing the commercialisation of sweet sorghum for bio-ethanol production, Dr William Dar said.

The consortium promotes the technology for producing the bio fuel through public-private partnership.

Tata Chemicals, with an annual turnover of $1.5 billion, recently entered bio fuels production by setting up a plant in Nanded in Maharashtra. The plant would produce bio-ethanol from sweet sorghum.
