New Delhi, Nov. 21 Ranbaxy Laboratories’ Canadian subsidiary has received marketing approval for the generic version of the benign prostatic hyperplasia (bhp) drug — Flomax. The Ontario based Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals-Canada Inc will make and sell Tamsulosin Hydrochloride capsules of 0.4 mg. The Canadian market, for both the generic and the registered version of the drug (Flomax), is estimated at Canadian $22 million, according to Ranbaxy. The company said in a statement on Wednesd ay that it would be launching the drug immediately. Flomax is a registered trademark of Boehringer Ingelheim in Canada. Ranbaxy recently reached an out-of-court settlement with the Japanese company Astellas and the US subsidiary of Boehringer Ingelheim (BIPI) with regards to the billion dollar plus drug Flomax (Tamsulosin capsules). It now expects to launch the drug in the US in March 2010.
