Gaining on demand: A worker drying pepper at a commodity collection centre near Sulthan Bathery in Kerala’s Wayanad district. About 17,000 tonnes of pepper valued at Rs 245.43 crore were exported during April-September 2007, up 37 per cent in quantity and 126 per cent in value compared with last year. However, of late Indian pepper has been out-priced following fall in the prices of other origins. –
