Lower procurement

Crop damage: Different varieties of sample rice on display for sale at a retail outlet near Kalpetta in Kerala’s Wayanad district. The Food Corparation of India (FCI) and State agencies have procured 72.48 lakh tonnes of rice during the current kharif marketing season. This is below the 76.91 lakh tonnes procured during the corresponding period last year. Rice production has been estimated lower this year on damage to crops due to floods and rains. –
