‘Global partnering’ to be Bangalore Bio theme

Our Bureau

Bangalore, Nov. 22 Global partnering is to be the theme of the eighth annual edition of Karnataka’s biotechnology show, Bangalore Bio, which takes off on April 24 next year.

India has a lot to offer in outsourced research, Ms Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Chairperson of the Karnataka Vision Group on Biotechnology, said.

Two new features have been added to the sessions, called Gateway to Europe and Indo-US corridor. Australia-New Zealand tie-up opportunities would also come to the fore. Another recent focus area has been to foster biotech careers.

The first finishing school proposed at PES Institute of Technology will begin in early 2008 to bring up the first batch of 100 industry-ready graduates and post-graduates.

The industry is also trying to motivate the young through a ‘BioSpark’ initiative in schools and the State is providing a corpus of Rs 5 lakh for this, said Mr M.N. Vidyashankar, Secretary, IT, Biotechnology and S&T.
