Coimbatore industry seeks staggered load shedding

The association would request that the load shedding was “even throughout Tamil Nadu”.

Coimbatore, Nov. 23

The Tamil Nadu Electricity Consumers Association (TECA), Coimbatore, has requested that the TNEB should consider load shedding for a whole day in a week in a staggered manner rather than resorting to unannounced power cuts that upset the scheduled functioning of the industrial units.

It also wanted all parts of the State be treated as equals while enforcing the power cuts.

In a memorandum to the Minister for Electricity, Mr Arcot N. Veerasamy, the TECA President, Mr A.V. Varadarajan, said that the acute power shortage had resulted in unscheduled power cuts, which hit the industries badly.

Uninterrupted supply

He said the industries could “survive only if the prices and delivery terms are strictly adhered to for which uninterrupted good quality power is a must”.

He suggested that the TNEB may consider load shedding for a full day in a week in different feeders in a staggered manner and ensure uninterrupted power supply for the rest of the six days.

Mr Varadarajan said the association would also request that the load shedding was “even throughout Tamil Nadu”.

He said the association learnt that Chennai city was not affected by power cuts and said “it is only fair that all electricity consumers are treated evenly” throughout the State.
