New Business Logistics - Shipping States - Kerala ICTT awarded Kochi container terminal construction contract Our Bureau Kochi, Nov. 23 DP World Cochin (India Gateway Terminal Pvt Ltd) has awarded the civil construction contract for the first phase of the International Container Transhipment Terminal (ICTT) at nearby Vallarpadam to the Simplex Consortium, a public listed civil engineering and construction company. The value of the contract is estimated to be around $150 million. Construction is expected to begin in December 2007 and the maximum period for the construction is 24 months. The first phase of development involves the building of 600 metres of quay, an on-dock railhead services by rail-mounted gantry cranes, 30 hectares of yard, and the acquisition of six Super-Post Panamax cranes designed to handle some of the largest vessels afloat today. Completion timePhase one of the terminal will be completed by the first quarter of 2009 and will have the capacity to handle 1 million TEU, an official release said. Mr Ganesh Raj, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of DP World Subcontinent Region, said on the occasion, “in awarding the contract, we have reached a very significant milestone in the important project. I am confident that all the stakeholders involved, both internal and external, are committed to completing the project on time.” The tender for dredging works to provide 14.5 metre draft at the ICTT and to widen the channel is ready for issue by the Cochin Port Trust.
