Strong global presence at Foodpro

‘Post-harvest processing continues to be weak’

Chennai, Nov. 24 Foodpro 2007, the seventh biennial exhibition and conference on food processing industry organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry, was inaugurated here today.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary, Mr L.K. Tripathy, who inaugurated the four-day exhibition, said that post harvest processing continued to be weak despite the gains in agriculture and horticulture production.

Development plan

The State Government has come out with an agriculture industry development plan in the industrial policy and this would be further supported by the policy on small and tiny industries that is in the pipeline.

Mr T.T. Ashok, former Chairman, CII-Tamil Nadu, said that over 122 exhibitors, including international players and global brands, are showcasing products and machinery relating to food processing industry.

Over 3,000 business visitors and 30,000 trade visitors are expected to visit the exhibition.

Key products and services on display include refrigeration; cold chain systems; processed and packaged foods; dairy, hotel, kitchen, packaging and bakery equipment; and retailing and vending systems.

The two-day conference starting on Monday will see industry leaders addressing a range of issues relating to food processing, the largest industry in the country.

The theme of the conference is ‘Driving the next agri revolution’.
