Security States - West Bengal Meet on private security industry Our Bureau Kolkata, Nov. 25 The 2nd National Conference of the Central Association of Private Security Industry (CAPSI) will meet in New Delhi on November 26-27, to deliberate on various aspects of The Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act 2005 and to recognise the needs of an industry that currently engages 50 lakh individuals and is growing at 25 per cent per annum. According to Mr Bipin Kumar Vohra, Chairman of the newly-constituted West Bengal Chapter of CAPSI, the private security industry has emerged as the largest single-industry employer in the country. It has also emerged as the highest service taxes payer as an industry. While till recently, the private security industry was largely unorganised, the coming into being of The Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act 2005 had made it necessary for the industry to operate in an organised manner and in accordance with mandated provisions. Mr Vohra said it was imperative to bring organised security agencies under the CAPSI umbrella with a view to ensuring compliance with certification, training and regulatory processes.
