Air leakages at ONGC Mehsana wells
Our Bureau
New Delhi, Nov. 28 Leakages at ONGC’s air injection wells in Mehsana asset in Gujarat could marginally affect the company’s output from the region. The leakage seems to have resulted in air and mud blow out in three shallow tube wells in the area. Water gushing in the tube wells started on last Thursday.
A senior company official said, “Production is going on in the block. The company has closed air injection wells in the area.” Since the crude produced from the asset is heavy and waxy in nature, it makes air injection a must. Closure of the injection wells could have an adverse impact on the production, resulting in a national loss, sources said.
ONGC produces 6,500 tonne per day of crude from the Mehsana asset, and the area affected is a small field in the region. “About 200 personnel from ONGC’s crisis management team and leading company institutes along with the asset team are involved in restoring normalcy,” a senior company official said. The company is still assessing the loss due to the blow out.
The official maintained that since none of the production wells have been closed, output is not likely to be impacted much at the Ballol field in the region.
