Hyderabad, Nov. 28 The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy, today announced that there would be no power cuts or load shedding for domestic, industrial and trade segments during the current year and in 2008-2009.

Directing AP Transco and AP Genco to take all measures to meet the requirements, including power purchase whenever necessary, he assured them of all Government help in meeting the requirements.

In a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office here today, Dr Reddy said that funds would not be a problem as AP Transco will make necessary arrangement either through loans or through State finances.

Irrigation sector

Alongside, it is proposed to make separate provisions for funds in the non-Plan expenditure to meet the requirement in farm and irrigation sectors.

While the overall shortfall is estimated at about 4,286 million requiring Rs 2,698 crore, the actual shortfall would be higher at about 4,438 mu. The Government reiterated that the necessary financial gap would be met by the State.

Though the cost of power generation by using naptha is estimated to cost Rs 8.62 per unit, it was decided to generate about 1065 mu. As per projections, the shortfall would be about 3,638 mu during 2008-2009 involving additional investments of Rs. 2,202 crore.

IPP plants

To meet the shortfall, the State has decided to run some of the plants of the independent power producers (IPPs). Accordingly, it is proposed to run the GMR-Vemagiri plant by diverting gas from Lanco. Necessary clearances have been secured from the Ministry of Power.

The State would take up the issue of allocation of 700 MW of power from Kayamkulam and the Eastern region.

The AP Genco is currently generating about 52 per cent of the total requirements and poised to add about 8945 mw of power by 2012-13 investing about Rs 36,386 crore.
