Our Bureau

Mumbai, Nov 29 Ashok Leyland launched its 4921 Tractor Trailer in Mumbai today, with focus on western Indian market for trucks.

“We are leading in south by huge margins and we want to expand our market in western India also,” said Mr Rajive Saharia, Executive Director – Marketing.

“We have to improve our service network in the western region,” he said.

The 49-tonne truck marks Ashok Leyland’s entry into the highest weight class of commercial vehicles permitted under the Motor Vehicle Act.

The new truck features 210 HP indigenously developed 6-cylinder H-series engine which is fuel efficient, says a release from the company.

“The 4921 TT is designed to deliver maximum customer value in the current rated payload regime. By coupling a three axle trailer, 4921 TT offers a rated payload of about 34 tonnes,” says the release. “The commercial vehicle market is doing well and we expect to sell 5000 units in the first year,” Mr Saharia said.

“The western Indian market is important for us for the presence of big ports and increased commercial and industrial activity in the region. We target the customers in container, cement, steel coil and cargo movements,” said sources.
