Agri-Biz & Commodities - Rubber
Scheme to help growers face market volatility

Our Bureau

Kottayam, Nov. 30The Rubber Board has drawn up a comprehensive programme to ensure the participation of small growers in the marketing sector, said Mr Sajen Peter, Chairman, Rubber Board, announcing the Golden Jubilee of the Rubber Plantation Extension Schemes.

The objective is to save the growers from volatility of rubber prices.

First phase

As part of this, in the first phase, dehumidified godowns would be constructed at selected centres to procure rubber. The growers would get benefits when the rubber is released at the time of the price hike.

If the growers or Rubber Producers’ Societies could retain the rubber with them, the big players could be removed from the market to a certain extent.

Rubber Plantation development in India has registered spectacular growth in respect of area, production and productivity over the last 50 years.
