Tea Lankan teas fetch higher price Coonoor, Nov. 30 Sri Lankan teas have fetched the highest price among the global auctions in the first nine months of 2007. In the Colombo auctions, they fetched an average price of $ 2.38 a kg. This was 51 cents more than 2006. Colombo auctions also posted the highest price increase of 27.27 per cent among all the centres. Indian prices rose by 8 cents to average $1.55 a kg. This marked an increase of 5.44 per cent. Of them, North Indian teas fetched $1.71 (up 5.56 per cent) and South Ind ian teas $1.19 (up 6.25 per cent). Jakarta auctions posted an increase of 5 cents (3.82 per cent) to average $1.36 a kg. Kenyan teas fetched the second highest price of $ 1.64 a kg, but prices fell by 18.41 per cent in Mombassa auctions. Malawi lost 17.07 per cent. In Limbe auctions, prices averaged $ 1.02 a kg against $ 1.23 last year. In Chittagang, Bangladesh teas fetched 13.53 per cent lower to average $ 1.15 a kg. – P.S. Sundar More Stories on : Tea
