Oilseeds & Edible Oil Industry & Economy - Exports & Imports Meet on groundnut quality to focus on upgradtion Our Bureau Mumbai, Dec. 1 As part of its ongoing efforts to spread quality awareness among stakeholders in the groundnut sector across the country and promote export of groundnut kernels, the Indian Oilseeds and Produce Exporters Association (IOPEA), under the aegis of APEDA, has organised a seminar on Groundnut Quality Upgradation on December 2 at Bhuj in Gujarat. Topics that experts will discuss include processing techniques, value-addition, international market scenario, food laws and schemes for export promotion. The seminar will focus on potential to increase international market share of Indian groundnut and groundnut oil, the association said in an release. India is the world’s second largest producer of groundnut (60-65 lakh tonnes in-shell) and exports kernels on a modest scale (1.5 lt). Rising global vegetable oil prices have opened up an opportunity for the export of groundnut oil too. Stringent quality standards for products stipulated by importing countries and overseas customers mean that Indian exporters have to be adequately equipped with knowledge and capacity to meet buyers requirements.
