Tea Strong demand at Kolkata tea sale Our Bureau Kolkata, Dec. 2 Last week, CTC teas in Kolkata, Guwahati and Siliguri auctions saw strong and consistent demand, according to the tea auctioneers, J. Thomas & Company Pvt Ltd. The price levels appreciated following active inquiries from the major blenders, western Indian and other internal buyers. The export inquiry too was fair. Orthodox varieties also saw a good support, the CIS and West Asia interests and prices were generally firm, with larger brokens appreciating in value. Darjeeling offerings too met with a good general demand. Better whole leaf grades gained in value. The major blenders, traditional exporters and local dealers operated actively. Crop & WeatherWith cold weather beginning to set in, the crops are now showing a decline and the season is expected to close shortly. INTERNATIONALIn Colombo, Sri Lankan teas saw a strong demand and were strongly competed for at dearer rates. The leafy grades rose to all-time highs. Iran operated strongly with good support from CIS and Dubai. Kenyan teas at Mombasa saw good inquiry with the price levels maintained irregularly around last. More Stories on : Tea
