Retailing States - Andhra Pradesh
Our Bureau Hyderabad, Dec. 2 Reliance Retail has said that the outcry in some parts of the country over the spread of organised retail outlets is only because of the fear of the unknown.“It is because of lack of information. We need to inform them the truth,” Mr Bijay Sahoo, President and Chief People Officer, said. ‘No harm’Interacting with students of Indian School of Business here on Saturday, he said organised retail did no harm (to the local traders). Responding to a question on the public outcry in some States over the alleged harmful effects of organised retailing, he said the companies, however, should not ignore what the local people had to say. “Listening to and responding to their concerns is very important to assuage feelings. You need to identify yourself with local communities,” Mr Sahoo added. Talent poolHe earlier spoke on the talent pool vis-À-vis the retail industry at the Leadership Summit. Stating that there was no dearth of talent in the country, he explained Reliance’s experience in recruiting for its retail initiative. Mr Kaushik Madhavan, Manager (Retail Practice) of A T Kearney said it was India’s time when it came to retailing activity sphere. “India was at the peak in the window of opportunity pattern,” Mr Madhavan said, citing the experiences of some top countries. He, however, said that not all of retail efforts were successful for global players. Rushing to ‘gold mines’ with the lack of local markets was found to be the No. 1 reason for failure of some companies. More Stories on : Retailing | Reliance Industries Ltd | Andhra Pradesh
