Spices & Condiments Domestic demand boost for turmeric Our Bureau Mumbai, Dec 3 Turmeric futures on NCDEX surged 3.92 per cent to Rs 2,412 per quintal, as a result of rising domestic demand. Castorseed gained 1.66 per cent to Rs 429 per quintal on account of strong demand from China and low inventory levels in the domestic markets. Jeera edged up 0.87 per cent to Rs 9,601 per quintal. “Fresh buying was made at lower levels in the spot markets,” said an analyst. Pepper prices climbed up 0.69 per cent to Rs 13,549 per quintal as a result of depleting stocks in the domestic market. Gur prices declined 0.97 per cent to Rs 389 per 40 kg. “Sugarcane are diverted to making gur as sugar mills have differed crushing due to high cane prices in Uttar Pradesh,” analyst said. Shankar kapas prices fell 0.87 per cent to Rs 504 per 20 kg on profit taking supported by steady spot markets. Potato positiveOn MCX, potato prices closed in positive side on short covering, while mentha oil prices went up by 0.21 per cent in line with firm spot market at Chandausi. Potato Agra futures fell 0.49 per cent to Rs 518 per quintal on higher arrivals in the north. Kapas khali prices fell marginally on profit taking on recent rally.
