Kerala warns druggists

Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec. 3 The Government will take stringent action against pharmaceuticals and distributors who refused to supply drugs to the retail outlets of the State Civil Supplies Corporation.

The Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Mr C. Divakaran, who held discussions with the State Drugs Controller and representatives of the All Kerala Chemists and Druggists Association here on Monday, said that the Government would intervene to control the prices of medicines and ensure their quality.

Curbs on supply

The meeting took place in the wake of the association imposing restrictions on supply to the retail stores of the Civil Supplies Corporation and demanded advance payments for the medicines to be supplied. They had also said that damaged and outdated drugs would not be replaced.

The Government took the position that medicines would not be allowed to be traded in the State without regulations.

The meeting took place in the context of the Civil Supplies Corporation planning to increase the number of its retail drug outlets from the present 66 to 250.
