Human Resources ‘India is the knowledge factory for the world’
Our Bureau Chennai, Dec. 4 India is a vast resource of talent pool. But what it lacks is, by and large, the risk-taking attitude, which is key to entrepreneurship, observed Mr Ben Verwaayen, CEO of British Telecom. India is a country not just of a billion people but a billion plus opportunities. Talent, which has no passport and no gender, is fast becoming the key differentiator for global business. Companies that harness and nurture this vast resource will gain a critical competitive advantage, he said. In an online interaction with students, as part of the NIIT Imperia Leadership Series, organised by NIIT, he said students must have commitment, capability to communicate and confidence to succeed in their attempts. Talking about India’s role in the global economy, he said: “You are the knowledge factory for the world.” India is increasingly important for many global business houses. In the first phase of globalisation, many players from around the world came to India. Now, in the second phase, it’s India’s role to take its brand to every part of the world. Indian workforce is competing with that of countries such as Brazil, China and the US. The country’s language skills, booming economy and entrepreneurial skills are its strength, Mr Verwaayen said.
