Limited internal demand at Coimbatore tea auctions

Our Bureau

Coimbatore, Dec 4 The total offerings at the Coimbatore Tea Trade Association crossed the 5 lakh kg mark, with leaf grades accounting for 1.94 lakh kg and the balance of the dust.

There was fair demand for the orthodox leaf. CIS shippers operated with fair strength. Internal demand was limited on wiry sorts. Prices for the high growns ruled steady, others irregular with quality.

There was limited quantity of the orthodox dust on offer and these sold around last levels. Few exporters and internal buyers operated.

CTC leaf dearer

Best liquoring CTC leaf ruled occasionally dearer, while the medium/plainer bolder grades met some export demand. These remained barely steady with some withdrawals due to inadequate bids.

There was good demand for the CTC dust. The major blender lent selective support on medium teas. Exporters operated on medium/plainer teas.

The best CTC teas ranged between Rs 50 and 60, while the orthodox high growns quoted between Rs 58 and 66.
