Spot rubber prices improve

Kottayam, Dec. 4 The domestic rubber prices improved despite a weak closing in global indices. The January futures for RSS 3 moved down further to ¥252.7 from ¥255 a kg at TOCOM. The grade slipped to Rs 95.79 a kg from Rs 96.44 at Bangkok. Sheet rubber closed slightly better at Rs 92 a kg at Kottayam, while it remained flat at the same level at Kochi. The grade recovered after hitting an intra day low at Rs 91 a kg on early trade followed by covering purchases at lower levels. Major manufacturers were buyers on RSS 4 up to Rs 91 a kg, sources said.

Futures firm

On NMCE, the December contract firmed up to Rs 93.60 (92.23), January to Rs 95.33 (93.74), February to Rs 97.17 (95.57) and March to Rs 98.98 (97.31) per kg for RSS 4. The open interest was 5,905 (5,662) tonnes, while the volumes totalled 2,084 (2,214) tonnes. The December contract finished better at Rs 93.30 against Rs 92.91 a kg on MCX.

Spot prices were (Rs/kg): RSS-4: 92.50 (91.50); RSS-5: 88.50 (87.50); ungraded: 84 (83.50); ISNR 20: 87.50 (86.50) and latex 60 per cent: 61 (61).
