Sugar Jaggery loses ground on cane diversion Our Bureau Mumbai, Dec. 4 Gur (jaggery) futures continued to lose ground and fell 2.98 per cent to Rs 378 per 40 kg in NCDEX on Tuesday. “Delay in crushing of cane by sugar mills has prompted the cane farmers in Uttar Pradesh to divert their cane to gur manufacturing units. Moreover, demand for the produce is slack in physical market,” said an analyst. Cotton seed oilcake futures dipped 1.61 per cent to Rs 342 per 50 kg and and kapas fell 1.58 per cent to Rs 470 per 20 kg on weak spot markets. Rape/mustardseed future tumbled 1.58 per cent to Rs 470 per 20 kg on higher inventory levels at exchange warehouses. Chilli prices rose 1.54 per cent to Rs 3,426 per quintal on short covering in the market. Chana futures recovered marginally by 0.8 per cent to Rs 2,278 per quintal as spot prices also moved up marginally. Jeera prices went up 0.32 per cent to Rs 9,645 per quintal due to stable Unjha spot markets. Mentha oil dropsOn MCX, mentha oil futures traded on negative note and prices declined 0.9 per cent to Rs 438 per kg on account of profit booking in the market. Kapas khali and refined soya oil ended lower. MCX recorded a turnover of Rs 4117 crore up to 5 pm on Tuesday, while in NCDEX it was Rs 1,393 crore. Active trades were high in among others soya oil, rape mustard seed, guar seed, pepper and turmeric in NCDEX. NCDEX Futexagri was down 0.41 per cent to 1442.76 points and NCDEXAgri closed up 0.11 per cent at 1459.83 points. MCX Comdex—the composite index of metals, energy and agri sub-indices—up 0.29 per cent at 2286.11 points. MCX Metal Index lost 0.47 per cent at 2521.81 points, MCX Energy Index was up 1.24 per cent at 2610.96 points and MCX Agri- Index fell 0.39 per cent at 1622.25 points.
