Junior doctors on strike in Hyderabad

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, Dec. 4 The strike by junior doctors at Niloufer Hospital, the paediatric referral hospital here, is likely to spread to different parts of the State, with doctors and nurses threatening to join the agitation.

The strike began on Sunday evening following alleged manhandling of junior doctors by MIM legislator Mr Afsar Khan and his supporters.

Fourteen children have died at the hospital because of the strike by Tuesday evening.

Appealing to the striking doctors to withdraw their agitation, the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, asked the doctors to come up with suggestions to end the crisis.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, he invited the striking doctors to talks. “We empathise with them. We do agree that there is an issue. But they should realise that it is the poor who are suffering because of the strike,” he said.

Meanwhile, senior government doctors have decided to support the agitation. They sported black badges while attending duties today.

Meanwhile, Ms Vijayashanti, actor-turned-politician, created a flutter at the hospital by entering it with her followers, criticising the doctors for going on strike.
