Cloudy weather buoys jeera

Mumbai, Dec. 5 Jeera futures gained 1.84 per cent to Rs 9,803 per quintal on weather condition in Rajathan and Gujarat. “The present cloudy weather may have an impact on the output,” said a trader.

Barley prices went up 0.72 per cent Rs 1,238 per quintal on account of rising domestic demand. Shakar kapas recovered marginally by 0.66 per cent to Rs 505 per 20 kg on fresh buying support at lower levels. Turmeric futures edged up 0.54 per cent to Rs 2,400 per quintal on firm spot market and strong buying by stockiest.

Soya improves

Soyabean rose 0.65 per cent to Rs 1,789 per quintal, while soyoil jumped 0.52 per cent to Rs 531 per 10 kg.

Pepper futures lost 1.69 per cent to Rs 13,265 per quintal due to weak international market.

On MCX, potato gained 1.51 per cent to Rs 438 per quintal, while menthe oil slipped 0.57 per cent to Rs 436 per kg.

MCX recorded a turnover of Rs 4,779 crore up to 5 pm on Wednesday, while it was Rs 1,503 crore in NCDEX. Among others, active trades were high in soya oil, rape mustard seed, soybean, pepper and guar seed.

NCDEX Futexagri was down 0.21 per cent to 1439.77 points and NCDEXAgri closed down 0.21 per cent at 1456.72 points. MCX Comdex—the composite index of metals, energy and agri sub-indices—up 0.45 per cent at 2290.37 points. MCX Metal Index lost 0.38 per cent at 2528.72 points,
