SBM officers too join the strike

Our Bureau

Bangalore, Dec 5

Banking operations of State Bank of Mysore (SBM) were hit after officers joined the strike called by the unions opposing the merger between State Bank of India (SBI) and State Bank of Saurashtra (SBS).

Decrying the strike, the SBM Managing Director, Mr P.P. Pattanayak, said, “The strike is unfortunate since the merger was unanimously approved by the boards of both SBI and SBS. Besides, there is no merger proposal between SBM and SBI.”

Till Monday, the strike participants included only the clerical cadre. But on Tuesday the officers also joined the strike, paralysing operations.

SBM has about 651 branches in the country. Besides, several departments of the Karnataka State Government transact business with the SBM. The strike has hit all these transactions.
