Airlines Airlines to clarify tax component of tickets Our Bureau New Delhi, Dec. 6 The Government has asked domestic airlines to clarify as to what they charge as the tax component of the ticket and whether these are being deposited with the Government. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in a communication to various operators has pointed out that the airline Web sites show two components of the airfare — basic fare and taxes. The communication states that it has not been clarified whether components such as passenger service fee and fuel surcharge are included in the basic fare or have been clubbed under taxes. Furthermore, the communication states that a ‘tax’ is defined to be a fee levied by the Government on a product, income or activity and such amounts are to be deposited with the Government and a record be maintained of this. The DGCA has sought a clarification from airlines in view of this ambiguity. More Stories on : Airlines | Taxation
