Lockheed hopes to clinch IAF deal

Kolkata, Dec 7 Lockheed Martin Corporation is hopeful of entering the Indian market with the sale of C130J Hercules cargo aircraft to the Indian Air Force. The deal, which is expected to be signed between India and the US by the end of the current fiscal, is valued at around $ 1 billion, according to Mr Royce Caplinger, Managing Director of Lockheed Martin India.

Addressing a function held here today to mark the launch of Lockheed Martin Innovation Growth Programme 2008, Mr Caplinger said that, besides cargo, the C130J Hercules aircraft also has the ability to carry passengers and troops.

He said Lockheed Martin was also keen to be partner of the Indian Navy. The company was wanted to provide IT services to the Centre and State governments. It was looking at joint research projects with defence establishments in India. It was also entering the healthcare management sector, he said.

On the Lockheed Martin Innovation Growth Programme, Mr Caplinger said: “Being part of what is happening in India means taking notice of the presence of some world-class companies both public and private that are bringing real change to their sectors. We are looking for opportunities to partner with Indian companies that possess technologies that will define tomorrow’s realities.”
