SA artisans to get training in construction trades

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, Dec. 7

The Hyderabad-based National Academy of Construction (NAC) will be training 100 South African artisans in various construction trades.

The South African team would be offered a three-month training in trades such as welding, plumbing and sanitation, electricity wiring and farm carpentry, Mr F.C.S. Peter, Director-General, NAC, told newspersons after the inauguration of the training programme here on Friday.

“This is the first-ever programme at the entry-level for foreigners. We are expecting more such batches after successful completion of the programme,” he said, adding that the trainees would be provided boarding and lodging facilities at NAC premises.

The programme was funded by Umsobomyu Youth Fund, South Africa, in association with the Confederation of Indian Industry.

Earlier, inaugurating the training, Mr Bobby Moroe, Second Secretary (Political), South African High Commission, New Delhi, said South Africa was looking for greater collaboration with Indian Government and industry in skill development initiatives.

Mr Utpal Sen Gupta, Vice-Chairman, CII (AP), said the training provided to the South Africans would be benchmarked on international standards.
