Infrastructure Second phase of freight corridor project to start soon: Lalu
Mr Lalu Prasad K.V. Kurmanath Tirupati, Dec. 8 The Union Minister for Railways, Mr Lalu Prasad, announced on Saturday that the Government would soon take up the second phase of the freight corridor project connecting Mumbai-Chennai-Howrah. The project is aimed at connecting the North, South, West and East with a dedicated line for goods trains, he said, while addressing a public meet here on Saturday. Mr Lalu said the dedicated line will ease the burden on existing lines that are saturated. He was here to open the Tirupati-Katpadi electrified line. Responding to pleas to start new trains, the Minister said the Railways could not start new ones as the existing lines are saturated. ‘Best is yet to come’Stating that the UPA Government could make a turnaround of the Railways, Mr Lalu said he could do this without increasing fares for the common man. He said the best was yet to come. “My next budget will supersede all my previous budgets,” he assured the gathering. Garib Raths, the all A/C coach trains for the common man, would be extended to all the States in phases. Tirupati and Secunderabad will join an exclusive club of stations that were proposed to be upgraded as world class stations. Surveys will soon begin in this regard. Recognising power as an important component of infrastructure, he said the Railways would generate power in association with the NTPC. More Stories on : Infrastructure | Railways
