Tea Firm to dearer trend at Kolkata tea sale Our Bureau Kolkata, Dec 9 Last week, CTC teas at the three North Indian auction centres at Kolkata, Siliguri and Guwahati met with strong demand with better Assams and Dooars appreciating in value, according to J. Thomas & Company Private Ltd, the tea auctioneers. The remainder were fully firm to occasionally dearer. The major blenders operated actively with good domestic support from all sections. Orthodox varieties saw a good demand. Brokens and fannings came to a firm market. Whole leaf grades were barely steady and tended easier. The buyers for the CIS countries were fairly active with fair support from those for the West Asia. Darjeeling teas also witnessed a good demand at firm rates with active buying from the blenders and local dealers. Export market concentrated on better varieties. Reports from upcountry suggest natural seasonal decline in leaf intakes. INTERNATIONALIn Colombo, Sri Lankan teas continued to see strong markets with active demand from Russia, Japan, the UK and the West Asia. The Kenyan teas at Mombasa saw a good general demand at irregular rates. Useful buying was forthcoming from Pakistan, the UK and the West Asia. More Stories on : Tea
