Gateway Terminals India (GTI), a joint venture between the APM Terminals belonging to the Copenhagen-based A P Moller Group and the Container Corporation of India, has been adjudged the best container terminal in India and awarded the distinction of “Port of the Year” at the Lloyd’s List Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Awards 2007 Gala, according to a press release issued by the company.

The award is judged on the basis of industry-leading standards of safe, reliable, cost-efficient and environment-friendly services provided to customers afloat and ashore by the port authorities and terminal operators.

GTI handled 1,15,501 TEUs in October 2007, up from 57,960 TEUs in November 2006, posting 99 per cent increase in performance within a year of the commencement of full-fledged operations, the press release adds.
