Sand plunder

Sand being transported by country boat in the backwaters of Cherai near Kochi. The Kerala Government is considering a proposal to amend the Kerala Protection of River Bank and Regulation of Removal of Sand Act 2001 to bring entire sand mining operations in the State under the public sector. It is also expected to make sand available to the public at a reasonable price, curbing operations of the sand mafia and regulating sand mining in a scientific manner.
