Our Bureau Visakhapatnam, Dec. 10 The Bharat Heavy Plate and Vessels Officers’ Association as well as the BHPV Supervisors’ Association registered their protest here on Monday at a gate meeting against the change in the stand of the Union Government on the takeover of the unit by the BHEL and the decision to get the company valued again as a prelude to the proposed takeover. They wore black badges as a mark of protest. Mr K. Govinda Rajulu, president of the BHPV Officers’ Association, and Mr M. Suryanarayana, the secretary, said at the meeting that on November 26, the Union Cabinet had taken the decision to allow the takeover of the BHPV here by the BHEL and to infuse Rs 264 crore into the BHPV to facilitate the takeover. UncertaintyThey said, “It was even displayed on the Web site of the Press Information Bureau, but subsequently we came to know that it was only an in-principle approval and the BHPV will be revalued again as a prelude to takeover. This is the fourth time that the company is being valued and it is totally unnecessary. We demand that the original decision of the Union Cabinet be implemented as early as possible, paving the way for the immediate takeover.” Mr V. Appa Rao, president of the BHPV Supervisors’ Association, and Mr U.V. Ramana, general secretary, said that for more than a decade the staff of the BHPV and the local people as well as the local legislators had been seeking the revival plan for the BHPV.
