New Projects States - Maharashtra Cummins opens second factory in Pithampur Our Bureau Pune, Dec 12 Cummins Turbo Technologies, maker of turbochargers for the medium heavy duty diesel engine market, has broken the ground for a new facility at the Pithampur Special Economic Zone in Madhya Pradesh. Turbo Technologies is headquartered in West Yorkshire, the UK. Giving details over a conference call, Mr. Jim Lyons, President, Cummins Turbo Technologies, said the company would invest $15 million at 80,000 sq ft facility. The construction is scheduled to begin in January 2008 and production in the third quarter of 2008. The capacity would be around 25,000 high horsepower turbo chargers and would cater to the 19 to 60 litre engines. He noted that the plant would focus on manufacturing high horsepower turbochargers for both domestic and global markets. He noted that the new facility would bring Cummins’ worldwide manufacturing locations to seven, building on its existing presence in Brazil, the UK, the US , India and its joint venture in China.. The company’s biggest customer is Cummins India Ltd. According to Mr. Jim, the new facility is a further indication of Cummins’ strategy of expansion in India. Earlier this year, Turbo acquired the remaining interest in a joint venture partnership in which it had been involved since the mid-1990s. He said Pithampur would be the most advanced manufacturing facility of Cummins Turbo anywhere in the world. The company’s other facility in Dewas (also in Madhya Pradesh) now cater to about 4 lakh turbo chargers per annum catering to the range between three to nine litres. The new plant is around 70 kms from Dewas. More Stories on : New Projects | Engineering | Maharashtra
