Pollution Global tenders floated for bio safety facility
Our Bureau Hyderabad, Dec. 12 The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) is floating global tenders to identify the architect and developer for the proposed Rs 100-crore National Bio-Safety Containment Facility in Hyderabad. The facility to come up on a five-acre land is being funded by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Department of Science and Technology (DST), and is expected to help pharma companies and scientific institutes. Dr Lalji Singh, Director, CCMB, which is creating the facility, said pharma companies wanting to use animal models for vaccine development, test drugs and so on, will benefit. The CDC, Atlanta and a Canadian lab have come forward to offer collaborative help. A leading French institute has also come forward with an offer to train people at the Biological Containment (Level 4) facility, he told an Indo-French Conference on RNAi in Genome Control today. Indo-French modelSpeaking at the inaugural of the three-day meet, the CCMB Director said the Indo-French model for scientific collaboration has been highly successful and was likely to be replicated by the Australians, who are planning a similar centre in India. Earlier, inaugurating the meeting, Mr Bruno Rouot, Science and Technology Attache at the French Embassy, said about 350 joint projects have been approved so far by the Indo-French Centre for Promotion of Advanced Research till the end of 2006. The French Government was also offering seven scholarships for Indian students intending to do doctoral studies in France at €1,300 for six month period.
