Industries must set store by safety measures

Tiruchi, Dec. 12 Industrial concerns should insist that their employees follow safety procedures strictly, the Joint Chief Inspector of Factories, Mr P. P. Janardhanam, has said.

Speaking at a function to inaugurate the 39th batch of Safety Stewards at Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) here, Mr Janardhanam said that companies should implement safety measures as a service to employees.

The General Manager (Manufacturing), BHEL, Mr V. Ananthakrishnan, in his presidential address emphasised the need to work towards achieving ‘zero accident’ in BHEL. He also reiterated that the annual production target would become a reality only by following quality and safety standards.

The Additional General Manager (health, safety and environment), BHEL, Mr G. Srinivasan explained the activities of safety stewards.

Mr Janardhanam installed 120 employees as Safety Stewards on the occasion and released a pocket book on safety titled ‘Safety in Electricity’.

The Chairman, Central Safety Committee, Mr S. R. Mani received the first copy. The Joint Chief Inspector of Factories also inaugurated the Safety Web Page.
