Vikram Pandit: Going places not new to him

Rahul Wadke

Mumbai, Dec. 12 Mr Vikram Pandit, as Citigroup’s new CEO, is sure going places. But that is not something new to him. His father’s transferable job with Sarabhai Chemicals meant he was doing that.

“Every three years he was forced to change school, as I was being transferred. He did his schooling in Mumbai, Baroda, Mombassa and Nagpur, New York. He finally finished his schooling in India from Bishop Cotton school of Nagpur,” says Mr Shankar Pandit, father of Vikram.

Mr Shankar Pandit is a lawyer by training and has served in corporate positions in Sarabhai Group. He is originally from Nagpur but now resides in Navi Mumbai.

Reader, photographer

Mr Pandit said that right from childhood Vikram has displayed sparks of brilliance. A voracious reader, practically reading everything from formation of universe to cooking, Vikram is also an avid photographer, he said.

“Indian culture and values have left a deep impact on his mind. His mother has been a major influence. For studies he did not avail to any additional tuitions or private coaching classes. His mother helped him with his studies in primary school and secondary school education was under my guidance, especially for mathematics,” Mr Pandit said.
