Visakhapatnam, Dec. 13 The Chennai-based Crescent Air Cargo Services Pvt Ltd is planning to introduce Vizag-Kolkata cargo flight, probably by the end of the month, as there is encouraging response to the recently introduced Chennai -Visakhapatnam-Chennai Fokker F 50 freighter aircraft.

The service is available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to Chennai.

As many as eight tonnes of cargo, mainly shrimp seeds, tuna fishes, garments, pharmaceutical products and automobile parts, have been airlifted since the operation began on November 28.

Seafood demand

The company’s Assistant Manager, Mr Mohammed Rafi, said the flight, which leaves Vizag at 2.30 p.m, reaches Chennai within 90 minutes and thereafter the cargo, particularly tuna fish, are airlifted to Japan and other South-Eastern countries by Singapore Airlines or Thai Airways.

“The seafood industry here is satisfied with our service.

“They are getting good price for the products which reach the ultimate destination fresh and fast,” he said.

Night landing

Once the night landing facility is operationalised here, the company plans to have evening flights and also overnight parking of its aircraft in the city airport in future.

More deployment

Two more Fokker F 50 aircraft, which the company plans to buy by March, will also be deployed to provide more freight connectivity to the city on a par with metros.

The aircraft, with the capacity of seven tonnes, mostly brings general cargo and couriers to Vizag.
