Poultry Winter sales boost TN layer sector G. Gurumurthy Coimbatore, Dec 13 Shell egg off-take has gained momentum with cold season setting in, boosting the layer market in Tamil Nadu. The higher lifting of table eggs reported across the State and in neighbouring Kerala where the seasonal festivities demand too has added to the spurt in consumption has improved the market sentiment. Farm-gate priceThe Namakkal zonal committee of the national egg coordination committee has chosen to maintain its farm-gate price at Rs 1.85 per egg for the current week too amidst stable market condition. The egg trade sources said the movement of eggs remained strong with local demand and also the off-take for export market displaying stable trend. The streaks of winter consumption of eggs too added strength to push the supplies. The wholesale price of table egg in southern and northern markets remained strong with Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad prices holding at Rs 1.93, Rs 1.95 and Rs 1.88 respectively. Whereas the prevailing prices at Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkatta markets being quoted at Rs 2.24, Rs 2.09 and Rs 2.02 per egg too indicated the soaring demand. Egg trade sources say that current upswing in table egg consumption would continue till February and the prices too may hold ground till then. Broiler prices remain low at Rs 33. The live chicken price, on the other hand, remained subdued at Rs 33 per kg amidst sluggish off-take. More Stories on : Poultry
