Fishermen engaged in a kole land in suburban Thrisur. The country’s fisheries sector is marked by large and mutually competing mechanised and artisanal fishing fleets and small and highly dispersed farm holdings in terms of aquaculture. The existing fish markets in the country command a value of Rs 27,104 lakh per month as per 2004-05 prices (annually about $813 million).
