Foundry sector geared to meet demand
Kolkata, Dec. 13
The foundry industry, which has registered steady
growth over the last 10 years, was now ready to meet
the increasing demand for castings production of which
is estimated to have risen from 3.5 million tonnes in
2005-06 to four mt in 2006-07, according to Mr S.C.
Dugar, Chairman of the Indian Foundry Association.
Addressing the 56th annual general meeting of the trade
body here on Thursday, Mr Dugar expressed concern
over the "continuous and regular increase" in the price of
pig iron, the foundry industry's basic raw material. He
expressed the hope that formalities pertaining to the
setting up of a foundry park in Howrah district would be
completed by next month. - Our Bureau
