Pune, Dec. 14 Godrej and Boyce Mfg Co Ltd, which launched its mattress business under the Interio Division on Friday, expects to capture around 50 per cent of the organised sector market in the country for the product over the next three years.

Launching a range of mattresses, including the latex variety in Pune, Mr J.B. Khodaiji, Head, Mattress Business, said that a phased national roll-out would follow in the next three weeks.

Asserting that the company aimed at changing the face of the mattress industry in the country, Mr Khodaiji said that the company was targeting the upper end of the market segment that comprised rubberised coir, spring and the top-end latex mattresses.

Market size

“The size of the market in the country is pegged at around Rs 5,000 crore, of which the organised sector accounts for roughly Rs 1,200 crore. We expect to capture around 50 per cent of this by the next three years,” he said, adding that export to markets such as West Asia , Africa and Sri Lanka was also on the cards.

Mr F.K. Khapoliwala, Senior General Manager (West) Sales, Interio Division, said that the mattresses would be manufactured at five locations in the country through third party agreements, adding that between Rs 50 and 100 crore will be invested over the next couple of years to upgrade production facilities.

The product would be retailed in India through the existing network of 500 Interio dealerships and some exclusive dealers that would be added to touch around 1,000 outlets in the next couple of years.
