Outlook Industry & Economy - Radio/TV Variety - Sports ESPN invites tenders for ICC broadcast rights till 2011 Our Bureau New Delhi, Dec. 14 ESPN Star Sports, the broadcast rights holder to ICC’s events till 2015, has invited tenders from global broadcasters for cricket events from 2008-2011. The broadcaster will telecast the tournaments in India, but is taking a cue from the recent success of ICC’s Twenty20 World Cup which it syndicated to broadcasters in 110 countries. The tournament held in September was available in North America, the Caribbean, Africa, West Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and even Cyprus and China amongst other countries. The company says its production of the feed had several new innovations to make the format more enjoyable and increase viewership. The tournaments on offer include the ICC Champions’ Trophy in Pakistan (2008) and in West Indies (2010), the second edition of the ICC World Twenty20 in England (2009) and the ICC Cricket World Cup in the Indian subcontinent (2011). For those interested, the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup (2008 and 2010) and the ICC Women’s World Cup (2009) and the World Cricket League (2011) are also included in the package of rights on offer. “We believe that the package of rights till 2011 offers broadcasters unparalleled cricket programming, with one major ICC event each year, as well as a number of other high-quality international competitions,” said Mr Manu Sawhney, Managing Director, ESPN Star Sports, in a statement.
