Passport office: Plea to include Dindigul

Our Correspondent

Madurai, Dec 14 The Tamilnadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry has made an appeal for the inclusion of Dindigul district under the jurisdiction of the proposed Regional Passport Office at Madurai.

In an appeal to the Union External Affairs Ministry and Chief Passport Officer at New Delhi, Chamber President, Mr S. Rethinavelu, while welcoming the establishment of a full fledged regional office at Madurai covering eight southern districts under its jurisdiction, has said that “people in the nearby Dindigul district are much chagrined that their district would not come under the jurisdiction of the Office at Madurai”. He has pointed out that traders and industrialists in Dindigul district have close business contacts with their counterparts in Madurai and frequently visit the city.

Dindigul district also falls under the jurisdiction of Madurai Bench of the Madras High court. It would be much easier for them to apply and obtain the passport through the office at Madurai.
