GST implementation: FKCCI hopes Karnataka will be in forefront

Karnataka wants to be in the forefront in goods and service tax (GST) implementation and Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) is planning to hold meetings with district chambers of commerce and industry to create awareness in this matter, according to the FKCCI President, Mr S.S. Patil.

Inaugurating a seminar on ‘VAT update and service tax’, organised by the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), in Mangalore on Monday, he said that Karnataka was in the forefront in VAT implementation and has collected around Rs 17,000 crore till now. To create awareness in this matter, FKCCI delegations may visit district chambers.

Other issues

Other States, which were hesitant to implement VAT, are now falling in line and planning to implement it in their States, he said.

On the other tax-related problems of the trade and industry, Mr Patil said the Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, will be in Bangalore this week, and issues related to direct and indirect taxes can be discussed with him then.

Assuring the support of FKCCI in the industrial development of Dakshina Kannada district, he said that the issues related to Mangalore SEZ will be discussed with the Commerce Minister, Mr Kamal Nath, during his visit to Bangalore in February. Mr K. Narasimha Prabhu, President of KCCI, presided over the meeting.
