‘Cut power tariff for jute units’

Our Bureau

Visakhapatnam, Dec. 19 The Federation of Andhra Pradesh Industries (FAPI) has appealed to the State Government to reduce the power tariff to agro-based units, especially jute units, from the present Rs 3.40 per unit to Rs 2, as such units need support.

Mr B.V. Rama Rao, president of the FAPI and Managing Director of Swarnandhra Jute Mill in Srikakulam district, said jute units were labour-intensive and they were providing employment in rural and semi-urban areas in the State. Therefore, he pleaded, the power tariff should be reduced.

He said an application for allotment of land to a proposed jute park in Srikakulam district was also pending with the State Government and he urged the Chief Minister to respond favourably to the proposal.

Mr B.V. Ram, Executive Director of Swarnandhra Jute Mill, sought loans from commercial banks for jute units at 4 per cent interest.
