Coke’s global corporate university to create learning benchmarks

Retailers, distributors and bottlers get to learn about management and merchandising

K.V. Kurmanath

Hyderabad, Dec. 22 Coca-Cola, the global beverages company that is planning to set up a global corporate university, is looking at various models, including its presence in virtual space.

“The university will be a one-stop shop for all learning and capability building activities across the company,” a senior executive told Business Line.

“We aim to create global benchmark in learning to enhance business performance. We will achieve this by equipping stakeholders with practical skills and knowledge to win in the market,” he said.

Coca-Cola’s plans to set up the university have generated a lot of interest in the industry.

The university would be a virtual learning centre for Coca-Cola’s business partners such as bottlers and retailers.

The inputs to learners will be designed in such a way to enhance their professional skills to help score in the market place.

Citing an example, the executive said all the stakeholders in the supply chain such as retailers, distributors and bottlers would learn about effective cash and inventory management and merchandising. This would help them fine-tune their activities in order to get better realisation in the business.

“In India, the Coca-Cola University will stretch across the traditional boundaries of building employee capability and also work on building capability for the company’s bottlers and key customers,” the Coke representative said.

“The project is on. But we have not decided on the launch of the university,” he added.
