Andhra University to host Science Congress

Visakhapatnam, Dec. 24 Andhra University is hosting the 95th Science Congress from January 3 to 7 and the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, will inaugurate it in the engineering college grounds, according to Dr L. Venugopala Reddy, Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of the organising committee.

“We are making all arrangements for the prestigious five-day event. The President, Ms Pratibha Patil, will chair a special session on January 5. Over 8,000 delegates, including four Nobel laureates, will participate in the Science Congress,” he said.

The focal theme for the Science Congress would be the development of knowledge-based society using environmentally sustainable science and technology, he said.

Special lectures

Apart from the plenary sessions, there would be 14 sections and over 12 special public lectures. The special lectures would be delivered by Prof M.G.K. Menon. Prof Paul Nurse (a Nobel laureate), Prof M.S. Swaminathan, Prof George Smoot, Mr Sam Pitroda, Prof Robert Curl Jr. (Nobel laureate), Prof Roger Komberg (Nobel laureate), Dr R. Chidambaram and several other luminaries in different disciplines.

Six young scientists would be invited to present their research findings in the congress, Dr Reddy said.
