Consumer Day celebrations

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec. 24

The State Government is taking steps to control the prices of essential commodities in Kerala through strong market intervention, said the Chief Minister, Mr V.S. Achuthanandan. Inaugurating the Consumer Day celebrations in the city today, he said that the entry of multinational companies and large domestic companies into the retail sector has affected the supply of essential commodities. By procuring huge quantities from production centres, these companies are creating a scarcity in the market, he said. Kerala's district consumer redressal forums will soon be revived to ensure that consumers' rights are protected, he added. - Our Bureau
